Notable Accomplishments

· Saved most of our coastal cypress swamps (over half a million acres) from becoming cypress mulch or wood pellets.

· Worked with pipeline companies and oil companies to minimize their impacts.

· Our monitoring and enforcement program stopped all illegal development of wetlands in the Basin.

· Stopped illegal dumping of oil waste into our Basin’s wetlands.

· Stopped our Basin from becoming a dump for oil and fracking waste from all over the country.

· Stopped and removed dams and gates, protecting public access.

· Stopped the draining and destruction of the Basin’s “perched lakes”

· Permit enforcement that our agencies are not doing.

· ABK has protected more wetlands than any other group. We are honored that our Founder was chosen as one of 20 out of over 300 Waterkeepers around the world as a Waterkeeper Warrior  because of the accomplishments of  ABK.
