JODI Bacque

Chitimacha Nation member and National Park Ranger Jodi Bacque will be speaking at our ABK Acadiana meeting this month.

Hi, my name is Jodie Bacque. I am Chitimacha. I was raised on the reservation, which is located in St. Mary Parish, near Charenton. I grew up on the banks of the Bayou Teche and along the Atchafalaya Basin. I began working for the National Park Service in 1986 at the Chitimacha Museum. Since Charenton is a bit of a drive, I applied for the National Park Ranger position in Lafayette, at Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve's, Acadian Cultural Center. I've been a ranger for 38 years now and am able to speak with visitors about my heritage, my home, the other cultures of south Louisiana, folkways, folklife, the environment, well, the list goes on. I am nearing the end of my park ranger career, but I will always be Chitimacha, and I will always love the environment of south Louisiana.
